Couleurs du Terroir
An ongoing personal research project
Last year I began making colour from my local landscape in the form of dyes, inks and pigments extracted from foraged plants and found materials.
Lower Normandy has a distinct palette of colours from the golden ochre of its cider apples to the magical, milky greys of the mud in the Bay of Mont Saint Michel. But this project goes beyond what meets the eye, to approach colour as a kind of ‘terroir’, looking for the ways in which climate soil and culture combine to produce unique shades that can be used by all kinds of makers.
